Take what we can from this and move on!

Yet another poor start to a match undid Holwell in their FA Vase tie at home to Heanor.

On their first attack Heanor progressed down the right, managed to get a hopeful high cross over to the back post where James Ozmen climbed highest for an easy opener heading down and beyond Challis just a minute after the start.

For the rest of the first half Holwell survived an onslaught from Heanor who must have thought they would run up a cricket score, and but for some woeful finishing may just have seen this tie off by midway through the first half.

But bit by bit Holwell did get back into the game and a late surge in the last ten minutes of the first half may have changed the whole complex of this game with keeper Pierrepoint pulling off some key saves to keep Heanor in front.

On the half hour, the home side had half a shout for a penalty as Nicholson went down under a clumsy challenge which the referee wanted none of. Then on 40mins the closest Holwell came to equalising. A George Coser free kick from the edge of the box, beat keeper Pierrepoint all ends up, came back off the angle of the crossbar and post onto the back of the keepers head and out for a corner. Very unlucky! HT 0-1

Heanor continued to press from the restart and Holwell were always second best in this tie to a more organised, experienced and settled side.

Heanor extended their lead in the 57th minute in controversial fashion as Ozmen who had tormented Vernon all afternoon got behind the defence again sending in a low cross where Sam Birks found himself all alone to tap in for 2-0. The goal was clearly offside with even away fans feeling Holwell had been unjustly beaten.

But credit to Holwell with the tie seemingly lost they regrouped and kept having a go with Nicholson being up ended again on 65mins this time the referee did give a penalty which George Coser swept in sending the keeper the wrong way.

Unfortunately too little too late for Holwell and though they competed well the home side were always struggling to shake off that early howler.

There is no doubt though that this squad is improving the addition of Aaron Black in this match and Aidan Black hopefully available next week will add some experience, steel and grit to the side as they get back into league duties away to Lutterworth Athletic.

Holwell: Challis Vernon ( Bishop ) Dunlop Coser Gaughan Gaskin ( Smith) Peberdey Hazeldine Black Nicholson ( Allen) Bitmead
