Tuesdays defeat meant it is now four games without a win in the league for Holwell and three straight defeats. This run has seen the side slip down to 18th in table and 16 points adrift of Tuesdays opponents who currently sit pretty at the top of the table.
Daws again had to make changes to his squad because of injury and unavailability. Manship who missed the weekend cup match was again missing this time because of a back problem, while Stannard was ruled out with a groin problem. Daws was also without Hallam due to unavailability.
In to replace the injured Stannard came new signing Alcott, while Hallam was replaced by the re signing of familiar face Steve Smith. B.Smith was also back in the squad following a trip to america.
On a very good playing surfaces both sides looked to get the ball on the surface and pass the ball around. Holwell enjoyed plenty of first half possession through the middle third of the field, however struggled to penetrate a resilient South Normanton back line. South Normanton on the other hand, while also enjoying a good share of possession, looked at their most dangerous breaking on Holwell when their attacks broke down.
South Normanton's first goal came this way when a Holwell attack broke down, they broke quickly down the left before Wadsworth fired the ball into net. Newton added South Normanton's second from the penalty spot, before Wadsworth added his second and Normantons third just before half time after Holwell were hit on the break again.
Despite a few choice words being spoken at half time in the Holwell changing rooms, Normantons fourth wasn't long in coming, Newton adding his second of the game following a flowing move.
South Normanton looked to control the game in the second half and for long periods had Holwell chasing shadows. Holwell however did begin to threaten when they attacked and got a consolation when Chapman crossed from the left and G.Wells headed home.
Daws brought on B.Smith for I.Wells, and Mooney replaced Alcott. Unfortunately for Holwell Normanton put pay to any ambitious hopes of a comeback when Leighton finished of another swift counter attack.
With the game over as a contest Holwell did continue to push and regain a bit of pride and grabbed a second when a Chapman cross this time from the right, was headed down at the back post by G.Wells to Mooney who rifled home from the 6 yard box for his first of the season following a broken ankle suffered during the close season.
Calver replaced Williams late on but the scoreline remained at 5-2 and Holwell were left to make the long journey home and lick their wounds.
Holwell face Stapenhill next at Welby road where they will be looking to stop the rot.
