Home fans dissappointed!

Home fans were looking forward to Holwell continuing their good run to four straight wins – how disappointed they were after this performance!

Signs were ominous from the second minute when under pressure Snelgrove sliced his clearance just over the bar for an early corner to the visitors. Holwell were struggling to get going and it was the visitors that were making chances with Karim Ibrahim skimming Holwell’s goal post on 4mins. Indeed it took 15mins before Holwell’s first shot at goal when Smedley shot just wide of the right hand upright.
The half descended into a tit for tat battle with no clear advantage gained by either side and even less opportunities to score. Holwell defended well clearing up any attacks the visitors made – similarly at the other end Holwell couldn’t break through to score.
Holwell again started sluggishly and nearly went one nil down but for a great save by Richard Cragg as early as the first minute after the restart diving at the feet of No 9 Jack Hopper.

Again the second half was not for the purist with neither side getting on top until Greenwood made a change after 15 mins of the second half sending on No 12 Nathan Kelly for Hopper.
Greenwood took charge from here on with more direct running at the Holwell defence and just after coming on Kelly found himself thrust into the action as Greenwood were awarded a penalty after Stannard had fouled on the very edge of the eighteen yard box. However to Holwell’s delight Kelly tried a showboat penalty which failed miserably as it sailed over the bar!
This fired Greenwood more than Holwell on a day where nothing was going right for the home side and Kelly avenged his penalty miss on 69 minutes. A free kick was awarded after Rose had fouled 30 yards out from goal and from the cross all missed and Kelly was on hand to head the ball down over the line when Cragg should have held the cross. The first goal conceded by Holwell in six hours of open play.
Holwell were chasing the game now and pushing forward and on 74mins Greenwood broke down the left with Rhys Bertram who played in Kristian Stephens to fire a low shot passed Cragg for number two.
Holwell never got back into the game at all and a penalty to Greenwood on 86mins despatched by Jack Caulton flattered the away side who never thought for a minute that they would take three points and three goals without loss when they turned up at 2pm.
