Manager Simon Daws believed his side were more than a match for fourth-placed Anstey who were superior only in their finishing when chances came their way.
Daws fielded the same side which had swept aside Blaby 4-2 the week before and felt their performance seven days on was no less stylish.
He said: “We played as well as the week before if not better and even their manager said we had 75 per cent of the game. It was a good performance without the result.”
Holwell had a golden chance to strike first when Kyle Waddell was pulled down in the box and referee Whittaker awarded the visitors a penalty. But Dominic Hallows let his 100 per cent record from the spot slip when keeper Joyce dived to his right to make the save.
Holwell continued to make the running and created four good chances to score before half-time. Chief among them came from the move of the match when slick passing put Ollie Freckingham in behind the defence, but his left-footed shot was pushed out for a corner.
And the inevitable sucker punch arrived just before half-time when a cross into the six-yard box was headed in by Taylor.
Undeterred, Holwell again came out for the second half with a point to prove, piling pressure on the hosts and creating, but spurning chances.
And with the visitors throwing everything at Anstey in a bid for a late equaliser, the home side took advantage as substitute Leech finishing off a quick breakaway four minutes from full-time.
Daws added: “We did everything but score. The lads are disappointed, but at the end of the day we are not far away. Anstey were fourth in the league and we were more than a match for them.
“We maybe just need another goalscorer because if the chances aren’t falling to Jay Kirkby they aren’t going in.”
He will be hoping for nothing less than three points on Saturday when Holwell return to Welby Road for the visit of struggling Graham St Prims.
