Another midweek fixture and another defeat as Ashby thrash Holwell 7-0 at Welby Road.

Holwell suffered their heaviest home league defeat in recent history on tuesday evening as Ashby Ivanhoe bouyed by their victory against Bardon Hill at the weekend left Welby Road, with seven goals and the 3 points in a dominant display.

Holwell welcomed back Hallam and Foster to the line up after the weekend draw with Stapenhill with Barnard dropping to bench and G.Wells missing the fixture due to injury.

Ashby full of confidence started on the front and within 30 minutes, had the match wrapped up and were threatening to run riot with 5 quick goals.

Stevenson started the rout before Sharp helped himself to a 15 minute hat trick as Holwell struggled to keep the ball, let alone build any meaningful attacks. Carline also pitched in with a goal for the visitors.

Holwell unsurprisingly did manage to end the half better than they started and for the remaining 10 minutes put Ashby under a little bit of pressure, with consecutive corners and I.Wells striking the foot of the post with a shot from range.

Holwell emerged from half time, with nothing but pride to play for, but also to try and stop the result from getting to embarrassing, and to their credit started the second half much the better, and found themselves unlucky not to pull at least a couple of goals back.

Firstly Mooney when slipped through saw his shot saved by the on rushing keeper. A couple of minutes later a Hibbitt header was cleared of the line, before Mooney saw his free kick hit the face of the bar and rebound to safety.

This however was as good as it got for the home side as Ashby then regained the ascendancy and helped themselves to a further two goals. Carline helping himself to another goal before Sharp capped a dominate display by firing his fourth of the match with five minutes remaining.

Holwell travel to Ratcliffe Olympic on Saturday looking for an immediate response after this crushing defeat. Despite the hefty injury list a 0-7 home defeat must been seen as unacceptable in any circumstances, and with recent result also going against Holwell since the weekend, Holwell have slipped back down the table to 18th with only Greenwood, and Graham Street Prims currently sat below themselves. Conicidently these two teams are the only teams Holwell have beaten in the league this season, thus far.

Holwell Team; Cragg, Randall (booked - foul), Rose (booked - dissent), Ridout, Calver, Foster (Denigan (70 mins), Hallam, Hibbitt, I.Wells (Barnard 80 mins), Seward (M.Young 75 mins), Mooney
