Bragging rights maintained as Holwell score a hat trick of victories over Barrow Town!

Easter Monday saw Holwell travel to Barrow, the third time the teams had met this season. With a decent following from Holwell faithful it was hoped that all Holwell’s demons would not show.

Still nervy the visitors made hard work of playing any decent football relying on the long ball to get them out of trouble. Though Barrow showed some endeavour the bottom of the league side also struggled to impress in this end of season, nothing counted encounter.

After a steady start by Holwell they did engineer chances and on three minutes Mark Tinsley tried a speculative shot from the right wing which had Keeper Perry scrambling to ensure the shot went over the bar. Whilst on 7minutes Kieran Foster had a shot from distance cannon back off the bar.

Though Holwell had the majority of the play and chances to score Barrow didn’t give up and with a big slice of luck might have embarrassed Holwell when No8 Connor Packwood came close on 18mins.

In a scrappy encounter the closest Holwell came to opening the scoring was after good work building on the right, Dean Randall and Mark Tinsley did well to play in Scott Mooney whose shot skimmed the outside bottom of the right hand post.

However on 35mins McKay found himself on the wrong side of Luke Phillips and as they ran into the box Phillips went down very easily and the referee pointed to the spot. Tyler Sibson gave Cragg no chance and against the run of play the home side were in front. HT 1-0

It didn’t look as though the visitors were going to get back into this as the early part of the second half belonged to Barrow with Packwood going close again just after the break.

But the visitors stuck at it and began to assert some authority winning a string of corners and within five minutes of the restart Chris Hibbitt rose to head in at the back post from a corner taken by Michael Stevenson.

Holwell were well on top now but not taking their chances but the challenge from barrow was diminishing and on 81mins Chris Hibbitt rose again to score at a corner to save Holwell’s blushes and send the visiting fans home happy with a win even if it was not very convincing.
