Timed at 10.4secs mark Tinsley set Holwell back on the winning track on Saturday with the opener after Chapman sent in a low cross.

Holwell Sports 2 - Holbrook Sports 1

Holwell got back to winning ways on Saturday with an assured win against fellow mid table opponents Holbrook Sports FC.

Holwell took only 10.4 seconds (their quickest goal in many a year) to go in front when a long ball forward from Jamie McKay, was headed by a defender into the path of Liam Chapman. He steadied himself and sent in a low cross which Mark Tinsley managed to get on the end of and slot Holwell into the lead.

The next ten minutes saw Holwell dominate as a shell shocked young Holbrook side tried to recover from this early set back. Holbrook looked all at sea and found it difficult to get into the game with Hibbitt and Stevenson running the midfield for the home side.

Scott Mooney looked out of sorts playing wide on the right but later changed with Tinsley and was more effective in his normal central roll.

Hollbrook to their credit were not totally out of this and put up a spirited fightback, again Holwell’s poor defensive record let them down on 14mins when they failed to clear an innocuous ball across the box where Joshua Hooley caught the home side out at the back post yet again.

Holwell got back on the attack and had several good chances to go back in front but it took until the 30th minute before they were in front again when Stuart Rose took a free kick just inside the opponents half. His high ball into the box was not dealt with by Holbrook. As the ball was loose Michael Stevenson was first to hook it into the net for Holwell’s second.

Holwell continued to boss the game for the rest of the half with chances to increase the lead but frustratingly these chances were not taken main culprit being Scott Mooney given several one on ones but taking extra touches or trying elaborate moves then missing when it seems easier to “just put the ball into the net!!”HT 2-1

The second half was much as the first with Holwell the team that looked comfortable and could extend their lead. Holbrook hardly had a shot on goal.

On 50 minutes good work in midfield by Hibbitt saw him set Mooney clear again but again his shot went wide of the target.

Holbrook tried to get back into the game and for a spell of about ten minutes did pressurise Holwell’s defence but they coped with what was thrown at them and Holwell used this pressure to work some good breakaway attacks from deep in their own half.

One such attack saw Liam Chapman pick the ball up on the left before he made a run of nearly 70yards before passing to Mooney who laid it on for Tinsley but again the attack fell down when the forwards wanted to take another touch rather than finish giving the defence that split second to cover angles and block shots.

In a game where Holwell dominated the match it would have been an ideal time to post a warning to next week’s Vase opponents with a big win but having one mind on next week’s most important FA Carlsberg Vase tie the game was allowed to fizzle out.

Holwell had other chances to extend their lead but poor finishing kept the score at 2-1.

Lets hope that the Holwell team are fully up for the task that awaits them next week at home to Birmingham side Coleshill Town FC and that a huge crowd turns out to cheer the team on to the Fourth Round and last sixteen of the FA Vase competition.
