A poor first half performance by Holwell saw them go in at the break three nil down to a fluke on 19mins when a free kick by Sam Surridge on the left was inexplicably allowed to go all the way through with no one touching it. The second on 41mins a shot from Dan Henderson crept in low at the keepers right hand post when the initial phase looked to be offside and a bizarre goal by Dan Stevenson on 44mins when Chris Hibbitt miss timed a block in midfield and the through ball was allowed to go right through to Stevenson who easily beat Cragg before slamming into an open goal.
Pretty poor stuff but the away fans were singing!
However it was the preferred hardworking Holwell team that came out for the second half getting in about Anstey as they should have done from the start this early pressure paid off when Mark Tinsley headed in on 51mins to get Holwell back in the game.
Mooney nearly clawed another back within two minutes but his shot went wide of the target.
It was Holwell who were in charge now and it only looked a matter of time before another came with chances for Mooney, Bettinson and Stevenson all just missing the target then on 67mins after good work by Michael Stevenson, Scott Mooney lifted the home crowd with Holwell’s second – could a turn around be on?
Anstey could not be discarded trying to hit Holwell on the break as they chased the game but the killer came on 72mins when Surridge ran at the home defence before sending the ball wide to Stacey Coore who cut in and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Cragg. A classic goal from a swift breakaway attack against the run of play.
Holwell now had a mountain to climb again, the game having gone up a few notches exciting the local crowd when on 80mins Chris Hibbitt brought the score back to 4- 3 with a shot which came down off the cross bar seemingly over the line. The Assistant Referee gave the goal and after long protests by Anstey players the referee pointed to the centre circle.
However Holwell had given themselves too much to do and though they put up a tremendously spirited fight back could not get the equaliser dropping another three points cheaply.
Holwell take on Radford FC at home on Saturday and must get over this set back quickly.
