A poor display at home to Ibstock Utd saw mid table Holwell hand Ibstock their first win of the season!

Holwell put themselves on the back foot from the second minute when, attempting a cross field pass to Foster, Graham Keast’s pass was intercepted by Jamie Chamberlain who slotted the ball to Andy Fell giving him the easiest of tasks to run at an advancing defence line straight onto Cragg who had no chance with his low shot.

It never got any better for Holwell after this who looked all at sea with some poor displays and on 13mins went further behind when Chamberlain was allowed to cut along the eighteen yard line and with no challengers set himself up for a free shot at goal to put the league’s bottom team two up against Holwell who dumped them out of the cup only two weeks before.

Maybe Holwell were giving Ibstock too much respect but for the rest of the half Holwell had nothing to show but for a shot from Hibbitt which crashed off the bar on 16mins which could have got Holwell back into the game.

As the half wore on Holwell were getting back into the game but still unable to get the forwards working into scoring opportunities.
However what a difference in the second half. Having had the hair dryer treatment from Simon Daws in the break, Holwell came out fighting and were back in the game on 57mins when Ian Bitmead bundled the ball over after a corner was awarded to the home side.

From here on in Holwell bombarded the Ibstock goal, as Ibstock allowed themselves to be pushed into deeper and deeper defending. Mooney had Holwell’s best chance to equalise on 65 mins but shot straight at the keeper.

A combination of poor finishing and numerous last ditch defending including a goal line clearance by Price, came to the aid of Ibstock who held on to record their first win of the season.
