Holwell maintained their unbeaten league run with league win number ten in a row on Saturday strolling to a comprehensive five nil defeat of beleaguered Radcliffe Olympic.

Michael Stevenson who scored number three with a fierce shot from 35yds.

Radcliffe Olympic 0 -- Holwell Sports 5

In a very one sided first half Holwell were nothing less than rampant.

Radcliffe had nothing to offer and Cragg must have only touched the ball three or four times all half. As early as the sixth minute Graham Keast had a good chance to open the scoring his shot going just wide of the post but it didn’t take long to go ahead and on 9mins after good work on the right from a throw in by Ridout, Foster played the ball to Stevenson who chipped over the defence to Keast and with sublime control and finish Holwell were one up.

With Radcliffe all at sea Holwell were finding space easy to play expansive football with Kirkby and Mooney playing up front around Bettinson. Kirkby and Mooney were causing havoc switching across the pitch running into the channels and with Foster pushing up on the right providing great crosses the chances to run away with this were coming.

On 14mins Foster did well to get behind the defence and send in a cross which Bettinson headed on at the front post Kirkby was first to the ball at the back post and headed down for Scott Mooney to get in and stab the ball home for number two.

Holwell were relentless now and kept up the pressure on beleaguered Radcliffe and on 19mins, Foster was fouled out on the wing. His free kick was punched out by keeper Watkinson but only to Stuart Rose on the far side of the eighteen yard box and he did well to return the ball into the middle where Bettinson this time headed down the ball for Mooney to poach another prod in goal for number three.

Nothing seemed to be working for Radcliffe and they seemed to be chasing shadows as Holwell splayed the ball all over the park. Referee Guise was doing well to defuse frustration by Radcliffe as midfield tackles started to get more intense.

The half continued with Holwell strolling through Radcliffe at will and on 32mins Michael Stevenson picked up the ball near the centre circle advanced towards the Radcliffe defence who stood off, allowing him time to set himself up for a shot and from 35yards out hit an unstoppable shot into the top left corner of the goal for a stunning fourth goal.

The one way traffic continued towards the end of the half and on 42mins Kirkby sent in a cross from the left which Sam Bettinson got his head to only to see the Radcliffe keeper Watkinson save with his right ankle as he dived to his left when all thought the ball was going in.

Near the end of the half Radcliffe had one of only two chances when Ryan Smith missed a glorious chance to regain some pride when he missed the target from about eight yards out.

But Holwell went straight up the park and on 44mins Keast picked the ball up on the edge of the box run across the line of defenders before sending in a shot passed Watkinson for number five.

Radcliffe must have had a roasting from their management team at half time as the second half saw a different Radcliffe team turn out. More determined and aggressive they gave Holwell more to think about but with the game out of site and Monday’s derby with Barrow town in mind the visitors took their foot off the pedal, substituting Foster, Keast and Kirkby with Fray, Smedley and Simpson.

Though Radcliffe tried they could not break down the strong Holwell defence to gain that elusive goal that would have embarrassed Holwell who kept another clean sheet, moving their points tally to 45 for the season and importantly win number ten on the trot, setting the scene nicely for the local Derby away at Barrow Town on Easter Monday.
