Two goals in two second half minutes see Holwell come from behind to stun higher placed Kimberley.

Holwell Sports 2 – 1 Kimberley Miners Welfare

Holwell stunned seventh placed visitors Kimberley with a second half comeback which saw Holwell go in front after two minutes which turned the match.

Holwell started the game well and for most of the first half had the upper hand on the visitors but just could not profit from some good balls into the box.

Hammond had a chance on 13mins but just could not control the ball which was cleared by a defender.

Holwell were on top for most of the first half and again could have gone in front on 20mins as Hammond and Foster combined but Foster shot wide.

However Holwell always had to be wary of breaks by Kimberley and Carrick Anderson did well to turn over a goal bound shot on 25mins.

The home side just could not get the ball in the net as Bitmead missed from close range on 34mins.

But it was the visitors that stunned the home crowd on 43mins as Felix Hogg headed home from a corner on the left to send the visitors in at the break in the lead.

Both teams were trying to get their heads around the comedy of errors that occurred during the break as the officials failed to reappear before it was made clear that the referee Niall Burtt could not continue with assistant Garner taking over.

Holwell pressed from the off and nearly equalised on 60mins but Hazeldine missed his chance.

Kimberley were the team on top now as they pressed for that goal to kill the match and Holwell were under a fair bit of pressure.

However some would say against the run of play the match was turned on its head when Chiavetta sent in another great free kick from the right on 65mins, as the ball fell in the box Joe Williams levelled the score to the delight of the home fans.

Then a minute later with Kimberley now reeling Lathain Hammond scored a second for the home side as he pounced on a loose ball in the box to slot the ball into the net.

Holwell still had some chances to extend the lead but were now happy to see Kimberley chasing the game. Play became frenetic as Kimberley tried but could not break down the Holwell defence as keeper Anderson did well whilst Ridout, Bitmead, Woodcock and Chiavetta handled everything the visitors threw at them.

Far from being backs to the wall Holwell could have gone on to extend their lead as Wells, Hazeldine and Hammond worried the Kimberley defence chasing down and making the defenders make mistakes.

However it was nail biting at the end after Foster was shown red for a second bookable offence the first dissent, the second mindlessly kicking the ball away after the referee had stopped play. A stupid red card which will heap pressure on a squad struggling for good results!

A good home win for Holwell, at last a positive to savour after only two wins in eight matches.

Holwell:- Anderson, Ridout, Chiavetta, Bitmead, Woodcock, Foster, Hibbitt, Williams, Wells, Hazeldine, Hammond.
