Holwell Kick Start League Campaign

After losing out to Kimberley in the opening league fixture Holwell got their first points and league win of the season with an efficient display against Anstey. Anstey who had already played three league games, winning one, drawing one and losing one were looking for revenge after Holwell beat them on four separate occasions last season.

Daws was forced into some changes however from the side that had put Ellistown to the sword in the FA Cup only a couple days earlier with Bitmead, and Hibbitt both missing. In came the returning Stevenson after illness and Hallam for his full debut.

Holwell started brightly and got their just rewards when Copson netted his first competitive goal for the club, heading home from a Chapman corner five minutes into the match.

Howell continued to press with Wells and Joachim both going close before a goal mouth scramble was cleared off the line.

Howell finally got the second goal their dominance deserved when Chapman drilled home from the edge of the area, with Holwell in complete control of proceedings at Welby Road.

Nasty returned after the half time interval revitalised, but despite their endeavour it was Holwell threatening to put the came to bed. Wells headed over from another Chapman corner, Stevenson fired over from the edge of the area and Copson just failed to reach a Harris cross from the right.

Holwell however failed to put the result beyond doubt and had to absorb some late Anstey pressure as they pushed men forward searching for a route back into the match, but for the second match running Stainsby, Foster, Ridout, Marshall and the debutant Hallam were in no mood for conceding as Holwell stood firm and saw the match out.
